Mesa Artist Turns One Hundred Paintings of Jesus into a Devotional Art Book for a World Searching for Answers
“The 100 Faces of Jesus: An Inspirational Guide to a Christian Existence” pairs original paintings with Scripture, devotionals, prayers and poetry. A Launch List is open now.
MESA, Ariz., October 30, 2026 — We live in a world desperately searching for answers. Mesa artist Kenneth Schilling believes one of the oldest answers is still the best: look at Jesus. His new book, The 100 Faces of Jesus: An Inspirational Guide to a Christian Existence, is a 10×12-inch, full-color hardcover that gathers one hundred of his original paintings, each one a different face of Christ, into a guide for daily faith.
Every chapter begins with a painting and the story behind it, followed by Scripture, a short devotional, a reflection, a prayer and a poem. The book moves from the nativity through the ministry, the Passion and the resurrection to the reign of the King, and it ends with a chapter on the narrow gate and the question every reader must answer: who is Jesus to you?
“This book is my way of sharing a journey that changed my heart, and I hope you will allow it to change yours too,” said Schilling.
Two words that changed an artist’s life
In late April of 2023, after more than twenty years as a working painter, Schilling woke in the night with two words on his heart: “Paint Jesus.” He picked up a brush the next morning. One painting became ten, then fifty, then one hundred, each in his style of Abstracted Realism (ABREAL), which pairs recognizable realism with expressive abstraction. “I thought I was painting the face of Jesus,” Schilling said. “All along, Jesus was working on my heart.”
As the paintings were shown, people began to notice. Some stopped before a single canvas. Some were moved to tears, and others were moved to joy. Those moments shaped the book’s devotionals, which invite readers to pause with each face and answer honestly.
